Sheep

New this year is a second breed of sheep being added to the farm. Jacobs made sense starting out because we wanted to use them for as much as possible with the added bonus of a cool-looking sheep out in the pastures. After sending off our first batch of sheep to the butcher (we couldn't get them sold and we couldn't breed them) we discovered the opportunity to raise sheep for meat. After research, we found a breed that works well for meat and wool, Bluefaced Leicesters which are a dual-purpose breed.

The reason we chose BFL instead of a typical meat breed is the added bonus of their amazing wool. I was lucky enough to take a spinning class at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival in 2022 when I learned how much I enjoy spinning BFL fiber.
